Medicaid work requirement in Vermont: what applies to you in 2027
Starting no later than January 2027, most adults 19 to 64 on Medicaid expansion must show 80 hours a month of work, school, volunteering or a work program, or $580 of income, unless the rule does not apply to them. Below is what Vermont has published about how it will check, with a link to each source. Vermont decides; this page only explains.

- Whether your own word counts in 2027
- Yes. Hours (work, community service, education, work program) and exclusions (including health-condition exclusions) can be met by 'auditable self-attestation' in 2027; documentation may be required in 2028. Income of $580 or more uses the Acceptable Verification Documents list (not stated as self-attestable). - How it checks medical frailty
- Agency lists the federal categories (blind or disabled, SUD, disabling mental disorder, serious or complex condition, ADL-impairing disability) plus 'significantly impairs' ability. In 2027 these are met by auditable self-attestation, and the state checks 'using information we already have' at the first renewal. No claims method, condition list or CMS tiers are published.Sources: 1 2 (Vermont's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
