Medicaid work requirement in New Hampshire: what applies to you in 2027
Starting no later than January 2027, most adults 19 to 64 on Medicaid expansion must show 80 hours a month of work, school, volunteering or a work program, or $580 of income, unless the rule does not apply to them. Below is what New Hampshire has published about how it will check, with a link to each source. New Hampshire decides; this page only explains.
What New Hampshire has published
- When it starts
- 2027-01-01 for new applicants (December 2026 activity must be shown). Existing Granite Advantage members start at their first redetermination in 2027.Sources: 1 2 (New Hampshire's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- Whether your own word counts in 2027
- Medical frailty: the agency says the '2027 federal framework permits NH to consider additional documentation or a statement/other information provided under penalty of perjury' when state data are insufficient. Agency pages publish no self-attestation policy for volunteer hours, income/hours or student status. Not found whether a state law bars attestation. NH has its own older state-law Granite Advantage work requirement, and its current status relative to the federal rule is not established here.Sources: 1 2 (New Hampshire's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- How many months it looks back
- Application: 1 (calendar month immediately before the application month). Renewal: First CE review for existing members: 12-month lookback; subsequent lookbacks: 6 months (meet in at least 1 month).Sources: 1 2 (New Hampshire's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- How often you renew
- 6 months for Granite Advantage only, starting after each member's already-scheduled 2027 renewal (the existing 12-month period is retained). Medical frailty is reverified at least every 12 months.Sources: 1 2 (New Hampshire's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- How it checks medical frailty
- Data-first, claims/encounter-based ex parte, using 'detailed clinical identification logic' that maps diagnoses to the frailty categories. A plain-language condition list is being developed for CMS review (not yet public). A member/applicant self-screener is due end of October 2026. A provider certification Form 330 pathway is planned (2028 workflow still being finalized). 3-tier model not named.Sources: 1 2 (New Hampshire's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
