Medicaid work requirement in Nevada: what applies to you in 2027
Starting no later than January 2027, most adults 19 to 64 on Medicaid expansion must show 80 hours a month of work, school, volunteering or a work program, or $580 of income, unless the rule does not apply to them. Below is what Nevada has published about how it will check, with a link to each source. Nevada decides; this page only explains.
What Nevada has published
- When it starts
- 2027-01-01. Existing members are checked at their 2027 renewal date. No early start.Sources: 1 2 3 4 5 (Nevada's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- Whether your own word counts in 2027
- Agency page says only: 'The law allows self-identification of certain exemptions. CMS is expected to release more guidance.' It is building a screening tool so members can explain health needs 'even without formal medical records'. Not from the agency, per Nevada Current, 2026-07-22, citing NVHA: members can self-attest compliance in 2027, with documentation required starting 2028. The agency itself publishes no per-category list.Sources: 1 2 3 4 5 (Nevada's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- How many months it looks back
- Application: 1 (month before application, per agency exceptions text). Renewal: at least 1 month of the review period / since last renewal.Sources: 1 2 3 4 5 (Nevada's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- How often you renew
- 6 months, for renewals starting 2027-01-01 (agency).Sources: 1 2 3 4 5 (Nevada's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
- How it checks medical frailty
- A vendor reviews 'all reliable data sources' to verify exemptions, plus a screening tool now being built. Not from the agency: NVHA defines medically frail as one of five condition categories AND impaired ability to work (Nevada Current, 2026-07-22). No condition list URL published. 3-tier model not mentioned.Sources: 1 2 3 4 5 (Nevada's own pages, listed below) · checked 2026-10-20
